Performance

Oriented films have to meet many requirements for best performance in their individual applications. Sukano
offers a broad range of masterbatches and compounds
to custom-design the properties you want in your polymer.

These are your options:

  • SUKANO® Slip/Antiblock Masterbatches for low haze, excellent transparency, better scratch resistance as well as a reduced coefficient of friction (COF) of the surface for better demolding and denesting, optimum printability and processing of your oriented films.

  • SUKANO® UV Masterbatches for reliable UV protection for outdoor
applications and for polymer protection of your oriented films
    over long periods of time.

  • SUKANO® White Masterbatches  for high opacity, maximum
    brightness,
and well dispersed white backgrounds for excellent
    printing results
    in your oriented films.

  • SUKANO® Matting Agents for a roughened surface creating a
    defined optical appearance
    of your oriented films.

  • SUKANO® Color Masterbatches for colors exactly meeting
    your specifications
for your oriented films and for our industry
    leading color matching service.

  • SUKANO® Processing Aid for a better contact between
polymer melt and chill roll during extrusion and for increased
    throughput
and a more efficient use of the extrusion line.

Application

Oriented films are thin films stretched and oriented in one (monoaxially) or two (biaxially) directions. They come in thicknesses from < 1 to 250 micron. Oriented films are very versatile, which is why they are popular in a large number of applications, from demanding industrial and technical purposes, eg. backsheets for photovoltaic cells and capacitors in electronics, to everyday products like films for food packaging and gift wrapping. Oriented films often are further converted to enhance their properties or appearance even more, i.e. they may be printed, metallized or laminated.

Shrink films

Shrink films are films of about 25-50 micron thickness, which have been stretched and oriented during the extrusion process and then cooled down. When in subsequent processing steps downstream again exposed to heat, the films shrink around the object beneath it.

To enable best functionality typically the following properties are important:

  • Excellent antiblocking performance enhabling a high speed production
  • Reliable UV protection for the packed product
  • High transparency offer best possible visibility of the packed content
  • Superior printability to maximize branding
  • Color correction for recycled material

Wire, metal & paper coating

Wire, metal & paper coating means coating of subjects with a very thin layer of polymers, mainly PET or PA. The thickness of the coating is mainly in the range from 10-50 micron and it is done in extrusion coating at high speeds. The coated materials are then used in for example food packaging (trays or cans), bookbindings and paper clips. The purpose of the coating is to improve functionality (e.g. better sliding properties) or optical appearance (gloss or opaque, uniform printing background) and important properties are:

  • High opacity to cover and hide the substance beneath the coating
  • Easy release of food stuff for food packaging application
  • Excellent dispersion to ensure uniform coverage of the coating
  • Reliable and high speed processing to optimize cost performance of product.
